Common Window Treatment Automation Myths

common window treatment automation myths

Automated window treatments move to your schedule. Program them to raise with the sunrise and lower with the sunset or control them at any time with the sound of your voice or the push of a button. They make hard-to-reach windows easy to operate, offer better energy efficiency, and enhanced privacy. The benefits are plentiful but unfortunately so are the myths.

Don’t fall for these common window treatment automation myths!

Myth #1: You must automate every window covering in your home

While you may choose to automate every window covering in your home, you don’t have to. You can automate one room or even just one window and choose manual operation for your other shades. Consider your budget and choose the windows that will benefit the most from motorization. Think hard-to-reach windows like skylights and large windows that may require a large shade that may be cumbersome to operate manually.

Myth #2: Only roller shades can be automated

While some automation companies may be limited in their offerings, nearly all styles of window coverings can be automated including drapes, Roman shades, blinds, and sheers. If you want more choices than basic roller shades, consult with a window treatment company that specializes in automation, like Gotcha Covered.

Myth #3: They can’t be integrated with my smart home system

If someone tells you this, seek a second opinion. Gotcha Covered can integrate with nearly any smart home system including Control 4, Brilliant, Clare, Crestron, Elan, Josh, RTI, Savant, and URC to name a few.

Myth #4: I should wait until after I build my home to automate my shades

If you are building a new home, consult with us early about your automation needs. This allows us to prewire and ensure proper outlet placement and wiring. Once the drywall goes up, battery packs may need to be used instead of hardwired shades.

Myth #5: Automated window treatments are hard to use

Automated window treatments add next-level convenience and luxury to your everyday life. It’s easy to program scenes using an app so they move throughout the day at pre-determined times. For instance, schedule your shades to raise every day with the sunrise for a gentle wake-up. In the summer, program them to close after you leave for work to keep your home cooler. If you need help setting up scenes, our staff is available to help.
